The Fullmetal Alchemist Creator’s New Anime Is Getting a Season 2

Hiromu Arakawa apparently does not believe in giving us time to breathe.

The first season of Daemons of the Shadow Realm just finished airing, and a second season is already officially in production. The announcement came immediately after the anime’s 24th episode, along with a new promotional video and key visual teasing what comes next for Yuru, Asa, and the supernatural beings caught in the middle of their increasingly complicated family history.

There is no premiere date yet, so we don’t know exactly how long the wait will be. But considering how many anime disappear into the “maybe someday” void after one season, getting confirmation this quickly is already a win.

What Is Daemons of the Shadow Realm About?

Daemons of the Shadow Realm, also known by its Japanese title Yomi no Tsugai, follows twins Yuru and Asa, who were born in a secluded mountain village under unusual circumstances. According to local beliefs, children born between day and night are destined to possess extraordinary power.

Yuru grows up in the isolated village believing his sister is being kept away from everyone to perform a sacred duty. His quiet life falls apart when armed outsiders attack the village—and among them is a girl who looks exactly like Asa.

That discovery launches Yuru into a much larger world filled with competing families, buried secrets, and supernatural beings called Daemons. These creatures exist in connected pairs and can form contracts with human masters. Their powers and appearances vary wildly, but controlling a pair of Daemons can make someone extremely dangerous.

At the center of everything are Yuru and Asa. The twins were separated when they were young, raised in completely different environments, and denied the truth about both their family and the strange circumstances surrounding their births. Their attempt to find each other is only the beginning. They also have to figure out who separated them, which version of their history is real, and why so many powerful people are interested in what they may be capable of doing.

Basically, it is a supernatural family mystery where nearly everyone knows more than they are willing to explain. That feels incredibly appropriate for the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist.

Season One Just Ended

The first season premiered on April 4, 2026, and ran for 24 episodes across two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired and currently has the complete first season available.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm was produced by Bones Film, with Masahiro Ando directing. Ando previously directed Sword of the Stranger and worked on titles including Snow White with the Red Hair.

Noboru Takagi handled the series composition. His previous credits include Golden Kamuy, Kingdom, and Durarara!!. Kenichiro Suehiro, the composer behind music for Fire Force, Re:ZERO −Starting Life in Another World−, and Golden Kamuy, composed the soundtrack.

The main cast includes Kensho Ono as Yuru and Yume Miyamoto as Asa. Yuichi Nakamura voices Dera, while Misaki Kuno plays Gabby. Rikiya Koyama and Takako Honda voice Yuru’s Daemon pair, Right and Left.

No returning staff or cast details have been separately announced for season two yet, but the continuation teaser makes it clear that Yuru and Asa’s story is far from finished.

Another Story From the Creator of Fullmetal Alchemist

The anime is based on the manga written and illustrated by Hiromu Arakawa, best known as the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist. She also created Silver Spoon and adapted Yoshiki Tanaka’s novels into the manga The Heroic Legend of Arslan.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm began serialization in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan in December 2021. The manga has now surpassed 7.5 million copies in circulation, which is a fairly significant jump from the four-million figure still floating around in older descriptions of the series.

Its 13th collected volume was released in Japan in July 2026. Square Enix Manga & Books publishes the series in English under the title Daemons of the Shadow Realm, so anyone who doesn’t feel like waiting for the anime to return can continue the story through the manga.

When Will Daemons of the Shadow Realm Season 2 Premiere?

For now, the only official answer is that season two is in production. The announcement did not include a release window, episode count, or confirmation of where the new season will stream internationally.

Crunchyroll carried all 24 episodes of season one, so it would make sense for the service to return for season two, but that has not been formally confirmed yet.

Still, the important part is that the continuation is happening. No years of begging, no vague promises, and no wondering whether the story will be abandoned after one season. Yuru and Asa’s mystery is officially moving forward—and with Hiromu Arakawa behind the original story, that is more than enough reason to keep this one on the radar.
