What Is Senren*Banka About?

If you’ve never heard of Senren*Banka, you’re probably not alone. The series originally began as a visual novel developed by Yuzusoft before receiving manga adaptations and, now, an anime.

The story follows Masaomi Arichi, an ordinary young man who accidentally breaks a legendary sword embedded in a sacred stone while visiting the mountain village of Hoori. Instead of getting into a little trouble and moving on with his vacation, he finds himself responsible for replacing the village’s divine blade and unexpectedly becomes engaged to the local shrine maiden, Murasame.

What starts as an awkward misunderstanding soon grows into a supernatural romance filled with local legends, shrine traditions, and a cast of heroines whose stories branch depending on the choices made in the original visual novel.

Fans Are Especially Excited About the Returning Cast

While the anime announcement itself was welcomed by fans, one detail has received an especially positive response online: the return of the original voice cast from the visual novel.

For longtime players, hearing familiar voices reprise their roles adds an extra layer of authenticity to the adaptation. Many fans also praised Yuzusoft for celebrating its 20th anniversary with an anime announcement, with some saying the series had been on their adaptation wishlist for years.

I haven’t played Senren*Banka, so this announcement was my introduction to the series. After reading more about it, though, I can definitely see the appeal. A supernatural romance mixed with folklore and comedy sounds like a fun combination, and bringing back the original voice cast seems like a thoughtful way to reward longtime fans while welcoming newcomers like me. I’ll definitely be curious to see more when additional trailers and character details are released.
