A new romantic comedy is making the jump from manga to anime as Kusunoki’s Flunking Her High School Glow-Up has officially been announced for a TV adaptation. Alongside the announcement, fans got their first teaser trailer, teaser visual, and a look at the main cast and production staff behind the upcoming series.

Based on the manga by Mitsuki Mii, the series follows two former middle school outcasts who hoped high school would offer a fresh start. However, as they quickly discover, changing your appearance is a lot easier than leaving your insecurities behind.

Kusunoki’s Flunking Her High School Glow-Up Anime Announces Cast and Staff

The upcoming anime is based on Mitsuki Mii’s romantic comedy manga, which began serialization on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket service in September 2021.

The adaptation will be directed by Midori Yui, who is also handling the series composition. Koji Haneda serves as character designer, Hyadain is composing the music, and animation production is being handled by Passione in collaboration with Hayabusa Film.

The main voice cast includes:

• Yuto Uemura as Keisuke Shizuki
• Tomori Kusunoki as Shizuka Kusunoki

Crunchyroll also shared the anime’s first teaser trailer and teaser visual. However, a release date has not yet been announced.

Keisuke Shizuki enters high school determined to reinvent himself after an awkward middle school experience. His plan seems to be working until he reunites with Shizuka Kusunoki, another former classmate who also attempted her own high school glow-up.

While Keisuke appears to have successfully changed his image, Shizuka struggles to leave her old self behind. As the pair reconnect, they begin supporting one another through embarrassing moments, lingering insecurities, and the growing feelings that develop between them.

Rather than focusing solely on romance, the story explores self-confidence, personal growth, and the pressure many teenagers feel to reinvent themselves when starting a new chapter in life.
