If Kamisama Kiss has been sitting on your “I desperately need to rewatch this” list, Crunchyroll just removed your last excuse.

Both seasons of Kamisama Kiss are now available to stream on Crunchyroll in English and Japanese. More importantly, all five of the anime’s special OVA episodes have joined them.

This is HUGE news for Kamisama Kiss fans because prior to this moment it was incredibly difficult to get ahold of and/or watch the OVAs. 

The OVAs are only available in Japanese with subtitles because they were never dubbed into English. That may be mildly devastating for those of us who consider J. Michael Tatum’s voice one of the primary benefits of having ears, but finally having these episodes easily available is still a pretty huge deal.

Why This Is Such Exciting Kamisama Kiss News

Kamisama Kiss follows Nanami Momozono, a teenage girl who becomes homeless thanks to her deadbeat father and somehow ends up becoming a land god. This new position comes with a shrine, supernatural responsibilities and Tomoe—a powerful fox yokai who is not particularly thrilled about being stuck with her.

Obviously, that goes exactly where every romance fan wants it to go.

The series is funny, romantic, ridiculously easy to binge and firmly belongs in the top tier of comfort anime. I already recommend it among my romance anime for fans of Horimiya, even though the two shows are very different on the surface. They both have that lovable cast, emotional warmth and addictive romance that makes you want to crawl inside the show and live there for a while.

Tomoe also scratches a very specific itch for anyone who grew up loving InuYasha. He has the white hair, fox ears, supernatural power and emotionally constipated attitude—but he is considerably classier and more mature than InuYasha ever managed to be. Tomoe is basically what happens when you give that same general fantasy-boyfriend energy better manners and the voice of J. Michael Tatum.

Speaking of that voice, I also have an entire list of other anime featuring J. Michael Tatum because I am nothing if not predictable.

It Might Finally Be Time for a Rewatch

Full disclosure: I have watched both seasons of Kamisama Kiss, but I have never seen the OVAs. Since those episodes continue Nanami and Tomoe’s story and finally give the anime more of an actual conclusion, I have apparently been walking around with this romance unfinished for years.

That clearly needs to be fixed.

Whether you have never watched Kamisama Kiss or already consider Tomoe one of your emotional-support anime men, Crunchyroll just gave us the perfect excuse to start from the beginning. Watch both seasons dubbed or subbed, then switch over to the subtitled OVAs and finally see how Nanami and Tomoe’s story wraps up.

Sounds like my next comfort-anime rewatch has officially been decided.
