Madame Web has officially spun its way onto Netflix, giving Marvel fans another chance to dive into the psychic side of the Spider-Verse. Directed by S.J. Clarkson and starring Dakota Johnson (best known for her role in the 50 Shades trilogy), this film promised to bring a darker, more mystical edge to the superhero world — but does it actually deliver?
Let’s be honest — there’s not a strong connection to the Spider-Verse here. While Madame Web’s powers come from a spider bite and there are some nods to the multiverse, this movie largely stands alone in tone and story.
So, should you add Madame Web to your Netflix queue, or is it one of those superhero movies better left unwatched? Let’s untangle the web and find out.
What Is Madame Web About?
Madame Web centers around Cassandra Webb, a clairvoyant with precognitive abilities who’s deeply connected to the Spider-Man universe. Unlike most Marvel blockbusters full of explosions and quippy one-liners, this movie leans heavily into the supernatural and psychic side of things — which sounds cool in theory but doesn’t always translate on screen.

Cassandra (played by Dakota Johnson) is portrayed as a mutant with telepathic powers who relies on a life-support system resembling a spider’s web. It keeps her alive while amplifying her abilities. The movie digs into her origin story — how she got her powers, the cost of them, and the struggle that comes with being able to see the future but not always change it.
As the movie unfolds, we meet several other characters from across time and dimension, some of whom hint at future Spider-themed heroes. Madame Web acts as their reluctant guide, using her foresight to help them face down threats that could unravel reality itself. There are moments of potential here — but they’re tangled in a plot that never quite finds its rhythm.
Where To Watch Madame Web
Madame Web is currently streaming on Netflix. Since most Marvel movies eventually land on Disney Plus, there’s a good chance this one will move there too once its Netflix run ends.
Madame Web Review: Stream or Skip?
If you’re a die-hard Marvel fan, you’ll probably want to give this movie a chance — even if it’s just to see what all the chaos was about. But will you actually enjoy it? Probably not.
Dakota Johnson herself has admitted in interviews that Madame Web was a mistake and that she doesn’t see herself taking on another superhero role anytime soon. Honestly, she’s right. Her strengths shine in romantic comedies and thrillers, not superhero flicks. She doesn’t exactly scream “Marvel heroine.”
It’s also tough to root for a superhero who can’t fight. Watching Cassandra constantly get thrown around while relying solely on her psychic foresight doesn’t make for thrilling action. It’s creative — but it’s not exciting.
And then there’s the ending. Oh, the ending. It’s painfully cheesy. After the big climactic fight, the movie tries to wrap things up with an overly sentimental, “girl power” moment that just doesn’t land. If you insist on watching, honestly — stop it right after the big fight. Save yourself from the cringe.
All in all, this mom totally gets why Madame Web reviews were rough. The movie had potential but ended up tangled in its own web of confusion and clichés.
The Verdict
If you came here hoping for a grounded Marvel story or a compelling new hero — this isn’t it. Between the weak dialogue, disjointed pacing, and mismatched casting, this movie misses more than it hits.
Skip it.
