Dark fantasy fans have another series to add to their ever-growing watchlists. The Witch and Hound anime was officially announced today alongside a teaser trailer, a stunning first visual, and the reveal of the anime’s main production staff. While there’s still no release date, the first look already has fans buzzing thanks to its gorgeous atmosphere and intriguing premise.
The teaser visual comes with the chilling tagline, “The witch was their trump card.” Honestly, between that line and the gorgeous artwork, this one immediately earned a spot on my radar.
Watch the official teaser trailer below.
Witch and Hound Anime Staff Revealed
The upcoming television anime is being produced by TriF Studio.
The staff announced so far includes:
- Director: Takanori Tsujimoto
- Assistant Director: Okamoto
- Series Composition: Rainy Kamitsuki and Jun Tsugita
- Screenplay: Jun Tsugita
- Character Design: Kengo Saito
- Music: Yuki Hayashi
An official website and X account also launched alongside the announcement, giving fans their first look at the series through the teaser trailer and visual.
At this time, no release date, broadcast window, or streaming platform has been announced.
The anime adapts Rainy Kamitsuki’s light novel series, featuring illustrations by LAM. The novels debuted under Shogakukan’s Gagaga Bunko label in October 2020 and currently have six volumes published in Japan.
The franchise also inspired a manga adaptation illustrated by Minori Tsukahara, which concluded in 2025 after four collected volumes. English publisher Yen Press is bringing the manga to readers in North America.
What Is Witch and Hound About?
According to Yen Press:
“Amelia, the kingdom of dragons with a monopoly on magical power, is once again invading other lands with the ferocious Queen Amelia at its head. Her eyes are set on Campusfellow, the small land of fire and iron, which at this rate will inevitably fall… For the sake of the country’s survival, Lord Bud Grace comes up with a last-resort plan—to ally with the one known only as the Witch, the subject of countless terrifying tales.”
The story follows Lord Bud Grace as he seeks out the legendary Mirror Witch to save his kingdom. Joining him is the deadly assassin Rollo “Black Dog” Duvel, setting the stage for a fantasy adventure filled with political conflict, dangerous alliances, dragons, and powerful magic.
If the teaser is any indication, it’s also going to deliver plenty of atmosphere to match its darker tone.
Fans Are Already Excited for the Witch and Hound Anime
The announcement quickly sparked excitement across social media.
On X, one fan wrote:
“The teaser already has me hooked. That dark fantasy atmosphere is absolutely immaculate—this one’s going straight onto the watchlist.”
Others praised the teaser’s animation, celebrated that the long-awaited adaptation is finally happening, and said they’re eager to see more.
Reddit reactions echoed that excitement. Many commenters couldn’t stop talking about the teaser visual, calling it “striking,” “insane,” and enough by itself to grab their attention. Several fans also appreciated that the series appears to be embracing classic fantasy with witches, kingdoms, and political intrigue instead of another isekai.
Others immediately recognized LAM’s distinctive artwork, with some comparing the visual style to takt op. Destiny. A few readers also mentioned they had struggled to find the manga, making the anime adaptation an exciting way to finally experience the story.
It’s easy to see why fans are excited. The light novel series even ranked in Anime! Anime!’s 2024 poll of light novels readers most wanted to see adapted into anime.

What Comes Next?
For now, there’s still plenty we don’t know about the Witch and Hound anime. No release window, cast, or streaming service has been announced.
Even so, the first teaser already leaves a strong impression. Between TriF Studio’s stylish visuals, an experienced creative team, and a fantasy world centered on witches, dragons, and political intrigue, this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
My watchlist is already hanging on by a thread, but apparently it has room for one more dark fantasy series.
